Toddler Tuesday – Fun Activities

My dear friend Beth over at thinkliz used to host a weekly post called Toddler Tuesday, but I don’t think she’s doing it anymore…no worries, I still have a toddler and am still going to do it!

We got out the markers last week. I won’t lie, it was a short lived activity. I had plenty of packing paper so I taped it down on the table so that she could color on it. However, it wasn’t long before she pulled the paper off the table and then color time was over…we’ll try again soon!

I have a sweet friend who was a Montessori teacher and now has a 5 year old daughter. She teaches Montessori to her daughter and another friend’s daughter 3 days a week and has invited us to join her. We have started going on Wednesday mornings to enjoy some activities!

Painting with the big girls!

We have also been doing a lot of ‘helping’ in the kitchen. Here she is ‘putting away’ the silverware.

Another new activity – stickers! I got a pack of 400+ stickers for a dollar and she likes to sit and stick them on paper…pretty entertaining stuff!

And I know she’s not a toddler…but she’s just too cute not to post!

Toddler Tuesday – Time to reset

My dear friend Beth over at thinkliz hosts a weekly post called Toddler Tuesday, and I am excited to link back to it!

Some days are the best! Your toddler is soooo enjoyable and you wish lots of people could share in the fun. She’s sweet and and fun and you just play and experience all day long and she takes good naps and she goes to bed without crying and life is so great. Some days are not like that. We were lucky to have a stream of days that were really enjoyable and I was able to pull myself away from my to do list so we could just be together and that was awesome!

Here are some pictures from the other morning – she is clearly quite happy eating her eggs and blueberries and this was a start to a rather fantastic day!

Some days really are more difficult. I’m writing this post on Monday and Capri woke up kind of grumpy and ornery this morning. It happens…luckily it is our church’s Back Yard Bible Club week and although Capri is well below the minimum age requirement, a friend is hosting a club at her house at 9 am so we went to be supportive. She is really too small to participate with the other kids in the games but she ran around this morning, played with chalk, and ate a rather large Popsicle then came home and crashed! Maybe next week I’ll have some pictures of that to share.

What I really was going to say is that I’m finding that sometimes we need to reset. I’ve seen several pins on Pinterest about resetting with your kids and other day I read this one entitled 20 Ways to ‘Reset’ When the Kids Are Having A Hard Day. Great ideas! Some we’re not quite old enough for but some we definitely are. The one we have been using quite a bit lately is listening to music. My mom just got Capri the 365 My Every Day Bible Song Collection. It has 8 CDs (2 for each season) and obviously 365 songs…I’m not gonna lie, some days it’s hard to put this on (and Jeremy really can’t handle it) – it’s not super awesome to listen to little kids sing, but Capri LOVES it! She even asks to put it on. It really does help turn our afternoons around. It’s kind of funny too because I know almost all of the songs. Having grown up in Sunday School and also having grown up listening to the Wee Sing Bible Songs cassette tapes when I was little I’m pretty well versed in the lyrics.  So some days I am singing my mom’s praises from the hilltops for this gift and other days not so much, but the truth is, music helps us reset and that’s something I’m starting to learn as a parent! You know what else is important (I’m finding)? being in the moment with your kids even if you don’t get to finish making another Once A Month Mom Recipe ;)

*Kind of funny side note – in listening to these songs I’ve found that when I was little I didn’t always know the correct words. There is one that says that “Jesus is down in my heart to stay” and pretty much my whole life I’ve been singing “Jesus is down in my heart Tuesday” and I always wondered why they didn’t sing about the other days of the week…I know – ridiculous!

**I’m also finding some good truths in some of the songs (it ‘helps ‘ that they are so repetitive) – “trust and obey, there’s no other way, to be happy in Jesus than to trust and obey.” That one has kind of been ringing through my head this last week!

Toddler Tuesday

My dear friend Beth over at thinkliz hosts a weekly post called Toddler Tuesday, and I am excited to link back to it!

Life is still crazy over here…actually even more crazy since the doctor informed me last week that I will have this baby no later than 38 weeks…so just 4 more weeks to go! Yikes! We did have some fun last week though so I thought I’d share just a handful of pictures!

I cannot help it! This picture is just too cute! We went swimming with some friends last week and Capri got to wear this ridiculously cute swimsuit (for the first time no less!). She did not seem overly enthused about the pool itself but she did seem to enjoy the splash pad. It’s so funny watching her run around – she’s such a little girl!

We don’t drink a lot of juice, but we’ve gone to 2 birthday parties recently where they had these Honest Kids juice pouches and she loves them! So we got got some to take with us when we go to the pool!

And here is a quick shot at a birthday party we attended! It was so much fun! She wore one of her cute tutus and is ‘eating’ a cupcake by herself for the first time!

Toddler Tuesday

My dear friend Beth over at thinkliz hosts a weekly post called Toddler Tuesday, and I am excited to link back to it!

We have been in a bit of survival mode over here…Our house is on the market so I spend a lot of time picking things up and cleaning…and why is my kitchen always full of dirty dishes? I know we eat 3 times a day but it still seems excessive! Also with Jeremy’s granny not doing well, he’s been gone on weekends a lot or working to make a little extra cash so we’ve just been enjoying regular days without a lot of extra activities or projects…so today, some pictures of my sweet girlin her super cute tutu!

Eating our snack out of our fabulous new snack cups…how did I ever live without these?

More snacks…with the dog hovering nearby (he doesn’t like the new cups as much…not so many spills!)

And now we’re playing with the hose…

Sometimes you need to take your snack for a drive.

Pensive

And a lovely self-portrait…not a great pic of myself, although honestly this is probably how I look most of the time anyway. I just love how she’s watching me!

Toddler Tuesday – Honest Toddler

My dear friend Beth over at thinkliz hosts a weekly post called Toddler Tuesday, and I am excited to link back to it!

Honest Toddler: Ok, so this is not a post about the amazing, creative, and selfless things I have been doing/producing with my adorable 16 month (!) old toddler. This is a post pointing you to a blog I discovered last week, Honest Toddler. If you need to stop reading here to go check it out, that’s ok, I understand. This is a blog for ‘those’ days, which let’s just be honest, somehow there is a part of everyday that feels like one of ‘those’ days with a toddler. This blog is a hilarious break that is so needed in my days of diaper changing, playing on the floor (despite being 8 months pregnant), cutting food into tiny pieces, and waking up at night for no apparent reason…

Still reading my blog? Stop it! Go read the Honest Toddler blog! It’s so much better than mine!

Toddler Tuesday – Jell-o Fun

My dear friend Beth over at thinkliz hosts a weekly post called Toddler Tuesday, and I am excited to link back to it!

Playing with Jell-o: So I get an email with a different activity every weekday from Productive Parenting. My goal/hope is to do at least one of these activities every week. Sometimes they require more time/supplies than others and sometimes I just try to do whatever they suggest but it’s not always worth writing about. This week I tried their Enjoying Jello suggestion.

She really wasn’t sure what to do with it at first. She kept giggling at it when it would jiggle. But she did eventually get the hang of it. I did give her some kitchen tools to use with it but I think she preferred those to the jello…Unfortunately this activity did not last nearly as long as I thought it would. Of course she had jello all over her and it stains – nothing terrible it came off in the bathtub. Anyway, we have more so we’ll probably try to play with it again today!

Toddler Tuesday – Cornmeal Fun

My dear friend Beth over at thinkliz hosts a weekly post called Toddler Tuesday, and I am excited to link back to it!

Playing with Cornmeal: I went to Sprouts last week and filled a bag with Cornmeal from their bulk section. I brought it home and put it in our biggest tupperware container. It’s our mini ‘sand box’. I got this idea from Productive Parenting but I can’t find the exact link to it. I had found this cute little garden bag on the HEB clearance rack for 25 cents! The bag has a little handle like a purse and inside there is a plastic shovel, rake, and sifter – It’s great! I put it all in the tupperware and we have gone outside to play in it a couple of times. She makes kind of a mess with it but it’s easy to sweep up and put back in the container (although it’s getting dirtier and dirtier!) She loves it! It entertains her for quite a while. It kind of make me wish we had a sandbox, but maybe that will just make going places where there are sandboxes more special ;)

Look at my tools, Mom!

I have a shovel!

And there she is playing in it!

She even got in the tupperware – sat down in it, rolled onto her stomach in it…hes I found cornmeal in her diaper later!

Toddler Tuesday – Pet Store Edition

My dear friend Beth over at thinkliz hosts a weekly post called Toddler Tuesday, and I am excited to link back to it!

Pet Store: We’ve been busy here lately and I haven’t had a lot of time to be creative or even take pictures of what we have done. However, yesterday we had to drop our car off at the dealership to get fixed and then take Jeremy to work. We were out of dog food so I thought we’d go to PetSmart and pick some up but according to their website they didn’t open until 9 (turns out they actually open at 7). So we had a mom/daughter morning at Chick-Fil-A. She’s never eaten there before and despite having already eaten breakfast she had a few hash browns while I ate my free sandwich! We didn’t venture into the play area because I wasn’t sure she was quite ready for that, but it was an enjoyable time anyway.

Then we went over to the pet store – she LOVED it! We’ve gone once before and she was mesmerized by the fish but this time was way more fun! Again she loved the fish…we went back to look at them 3 times! She also enjoyed the birds. Unfortunately all the little rodents were still sleeping. The best part – they were having a dog training class and they were all in the room behind the big window! There were at least 15 dogs in there running and around and she just stood at the window pointing and giggling! So cute! We bought dog food and a dog tag for Turner but we were still there for at least 30 minutes looking at all the animals – it was very fun!
